Reach & Read: Joseph’s Big Ride

Joseph’s Big Ride  by Terry Farish, Illustrated by Ken Daley

Great story about kindness and acceptance and a little patience. This is the first book I have read featuring refugee children and it does a good job highlighting some of their different cultural elements, how some of ‘ours’ may seem and presents common ground regardless. The girl, Whoosh, is a strong female character who recognizes the kindness in others. The illustrations are spunky and keep you engaged in the story.  I have added this book to the Children’s Book Shelf page where right now a list is growing with books featuring diverse characters or stories. I received a electronic copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated, nor required to say something positive, in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my experience and observations while reading this book.
