Reach & Read: Joseph’s Big Ride

Joseph’s Big Ride  by Terry Farish, Illustrated by Ken Daley

Great story about kindness and acceptance and a little patience. This is the first book I have read featuring refugee children and it does a good job highlighting some of their different cultural elements, how some of ‘ours’ may seem and presents common ground regardless. The girl, Whoosh, is a strong female character who recognizes the kindness in others. The illustrations are spunky and keep you engaged in the story.  I have added this book to the Children’s Book Shelf page where right now a list is growing with books featuring diverse characters or stories.
