Book Review: Zelda by Nancy Milford
Upon recommendation from a co-worker, I tackled ‘Zelda’. This is not a quick nor easy read. Enjoyable at times, if you have an imagination but really frankly, sad. Not in the Old Yeller way either, just a downward spiral of a story, glimpses of how a mind unravels. I did struggle to make it through as it is part journal, correspondence excerpts (my how our English has changed) and then academic writing. Despite schlogging though parts of it, I am glad I read it. I now want to watch the Great Gatsby (yes watch, not read – its ok people) and scenes from Midnight in Paris flickered in my memory. All in all, worth the work to read but hide all your magazines and other quick reads to stay focused.
